The New Google+ Profile Banner Image Size
Selecting the banner option on your G+ profile
After reading a few articles about the new Google+ design update today I was immediately interested in the new banner option for our profile. According to the article from MarketingLand.com the subject was kind of glazed over in the official announcement and I haven’t seen the usual step-by-step instructions for customizing your profile (yet).
So I dove in and it was actually fairly simple. Start by going to the profile view and hover over the image area to reveal the “change photos” option. Next step is to select between two options next to “Choose a template:”. The banner option is the first one and it’s pretty easy to see the difference between the two as the second option is broken up.
Creating our G+ Banner
I didn’t feel like waiting for the infographics that detail every change and image size available; So after pushing some pixels around and testing it out a few times I came up with a banner for our page that seems to be working well. It was a bit tricky as the little triangle that sticks out on the left reveals part of the image; it took a couple of tries to get the position of the profile image just right too.

This site has a list of apps you can use to make your google plus profile picture and banner http://www.gplusavatarmaker.com/about.html including the Picture Image Avatar And Banner Maker http://www.gplusavatarmaker.com/GPlus-profile-picture-and-banner-maker.html.
Hey Mark, I tried the tool out and it works fairly well.
It does have some limitations but I can see how it works well for someone who doesn’t want to mess around with creating custom graphics. It’s nice that there are adjustments for Brightness, Contrast, Hue and Saturation plus the ability to zoom in and out.
Just upload a photo and save out the two images and you’re done.
The overwhelming amount of ads on the page does concern me though. I know we all have to make money somehow but wow, I don’t think I’ve seen quite that many ads in relation to the amount of actual content present on the page.
The main picture dimensions implies that 250 is the length of the diagonal, not the height and width. I know that “diagonal” doesn’t make sense when you’re talking pixels, but the diagram is misleading.
You’re right, fixed.

Thanks a lot,
Searching for solution for my gplus page cover and finally found it here.
Glad I could help :)
Very interesting, thank you. It would be nice to know the size of the small portion at the right of the profile image.
The area to the right of the profile image is 55px but it may look like less because Google uses a gradient to fade the image to white.
This PSD made my task so much easy. My job done within 30 min. Thx a ton.
Btw, any link how I can get the 5 different pic in the cover photos.
Hey Michael, great link info but i came here looking for the new new google layout, they dont seem to keep things long enough to enjoy them in relaxation. =) Do you happen to know the new dimensions? The banner is huge this time around.
Hey there, I just posted a new blog and template today for the new Google+ cover photo. The dimensions are 2120×1192.
Here’s the link.
